The Maremma is one of the most wonderful tourist destinations  in Italy. Full of romance and fun the region is a mix of different natural environments that can never be found in another place. Parts of the region are the characterized by a system of dunes alternating with marshy grounds mainly covered with a pine wood. The Maremma is one of the least populated parts of Italy, a place of large spaces where herds of cattle wander freely guarded by butteri - famous Tuscan cowboys who ride horses. You can watch these skillful herdsmen during local festivals and other special occasions or they can guide you on a horseback trekking available even for beginners. The Maremma has also a rocky coastline, made of peninsulas with hills extending to the sea. Here the mountains and the sea form beautiful bays, many of them ideal for swimming. The Maremma Natural Park offers many activities for families. You can start your day with a morning hiking and see wild horses, white cattle, or maybe a wild boar. For more excitement you can crawl through the ancient tunnels and tombs left by the Etruscans. In the afternoon take a trip to Terme di Saturnia. This thermal pool is over 3000 years old and people come here to revitalize themselves in the sulfurous spring waters.
